Review by Kevin L. Michaels "ShovelheadKevin" : ANOTHER great Pioneer!
Installed in 1995 Ford F150 XLT Ext. cab w/stock {for now} speakers. Installation took about an hour, direct replacement of the factory HU. Pretty basic once you get the original HU out. I've had my P7200HD for about a month now. The HD sig reception is great and I've had no probs breaking/losing signal. Having the 3 row display is nice for song info, etc. ipod {I'm using USB2.0 cable} controls are great and ipod can be controlled from HU or ipod, which is nice for passengers. Audio control gives many options for tailoring personal tastes. I've been able to fine tune to where my factory speakers sound pretty darn good. {Still going to upgrade them though.} I haven't tested the CD/XM/bluetooth capabilities yet, but I'm confident that they will perform as well as the rest of the system. On a scale of 1-10 I give the P7200HD a 9.5. The only improvement that I would have would be a dedicated ipod connection from the rear of the unit.Would I recommend the P7200HD? You bet!
Review by J. Sharp : Great radio/audio, annoying interface.
This unit is affordably priced, the HD radio is good, and the subwoofer out/high pass filter with 4 volt preouts are outstanding. I second what other reviewers have said about a annoying "multifunction" knob - pressing it takes more effort and concentration than should be required when one is driving. I also purchased the separate bluetooth unit, and there are sporadic miscues in connecting with my Motorola Droid, but all in all, Pioneer makes a good product for the price. UPDATE: After a couple months of use, I have one other "annoyance" to report. Perhaps in an attempt to be fancy, the display cycles routinely and the entire thing lights up blue every few seconds. When driving at night, this is a significant distraction. The entire display can be turned off, but this is not the ideal solution. I just want the regular "flashing light" effect to cease.
Review by T. Combel : Quick Note on Installation
Note that the RCA sockets on the back of the reciever require your RCA cables to plug in straight from behind. You may not have space for this. My 2003 Toyota Tacoma requires right angle RCA adapters. I have ordered them from Parts Express (available directly or through Amazon.com). I have ordered two styles/depths and will report back which ones work. Gold RCA Right Angle Adapter Short Gold RCA Right Angle Adapter Long
Review by J. Walters : Great
I drive an 18wheeler for a living and put this in the truck and listen to it 12 hours a day. Love the sound, easy to use, looks good, and lots of connections for usb, ipod, aux. Great cd player.
Review by D : Outstanding product!!
This is a great CD Receiver unit, Period! The only negative is when the sunlight is on the display, it is hard to read the display. Otherwise, the flexibility of the high pass filter with the sub-woofer low pass filter is good. There are different level settings for the sub-woofer's output, a phase setting, bass boost level, and of course the 4V RCA output. My sub-woofer sounds great with this unit! The HD radio sound quality is good, but not as sharp sounding compared to a CD sound quality, none the less, it gets the job done. The CD loading and playback is quick, there's even a sound retriever feature (level 1 & 2) that enhances the sound playback of the CD, which will depend on your preference for using this feature. The remote control functions are simple and easy to use. Overall, I give this unit 5 stars.
Review by ronmoore : Awesome Head Unit
This head unit is by far one of the best that I've ever owned. I am quite an audiophile and I prefer a fully customizable set up. I own a BMW and have fully amplified interior speakers; this six channel receiver is perfect for my anticipated addition of two 10" sub woofers. I have previously owned other head units including Kenwood, Pioneer, Sony, and JVC (regrettably). The Kenwood was a DVD Touch Screen unit, and this radio's sound quality is far superior. The sound coming out of this head unit will blow you away. I caution anyone who buys a new head unit to also replace their stock speakers. If you are leery of doing further customization of your vehicle, I would just say that you shouldn't bother buying such an amazing radio--the quality of sound will be lost on you. The USB input is wonderful because you can hook up a 4Gb stick and listen for hours. I took my car from Cincinnati to Chicago this weekend and never heard a repeat song. Plus my buddy was able to plug in his mp3 player using the aux in input on the front. There is no hassle with adapters or i-pod only cables. My powered antenna has always had really good reception, but the HD channels sound exactly like listening to a CD or mp3 player. I was really impressed.
Review by Michael K. O'connor : Great sound, Great Value. Hate the controller knob.
I like this Head Unit and I'd buy it again for what I want in a head unit for all the reasons you can see in the description and other reviews, but be warned it has one major detractor in my opinion. The Multi Control knob which is basically a volume knob on steroids and can not only twist but can be tilt clicked up down left and right and center is sometimes a pain to operate when driving. I can't count the times that I have tried to hit the center click which activates the main menu so that I could fine adjust some audio only to accidently hit a directional click (sending me usually not just off song, but to root of directory) instead because of road vibration. It's kinda hard to hit center click consistantly when the car is moving and your driving. You have to look down, make sure your in the center and then hope the next pebble you drive over doesnt jerk you off your tiny target. I'd much prefer a multiple button setup. Also even when you hit the clicks right sometimes if going over a bumpy road you might click with alot more force than you intend to and I'm constantly afraid of breaking the only knob that controls my stereo. Know that I have most of the fine tuning done I try to use the remote to operate it when possible, But I still need to get into the menu occasionally when I drive and it's a pita to do unless I pull over. I drive a Subaru Legacy wagon not a pickup truck so my ride isn't all that rough although streets around here could be better. Why do we need a Multi knob in a non hand held platform. Multi-knobs are great for hand-held, they suck for a moving target.
Review by J. smith : Really nice.
As a disclaimer this 7200hd replaced a 15 year old CD player, so it really wouldn't have taken much to "wow" me.I love the USB port, I use it daily for audio books, but I don't push any buttons other than volume while using it for fear of jumping to the next track. The fast forward is very slow so I'd rather quit listening to an audio book than to spend 15 min. getting back to where I was.*UPDATE* There is some kind of problem that I haven't figured out yet. With a few (out of dozens) large audio book files I have listened to the track all the way home from work only to have the track start at a random place when it starts the next day. With those same few files rewinding or fast forwarding skips to a completely random spot. I don't know if it is a problem with the audio file's encoding or the CD player itself, but this hasn't happened often. If anyone knows the solution or has even figured out the problem I would love to hear it.The Master Control (knob) isn't initially intuitive so you have to look up any function you want to perform, but after that it becomes second nature. There is a Best Station Memory, but I haven't got the seek/scan feature to work worth a crap yet.Stations come in clear. The display is beautiful. Step 1 though, is to find out how to turn off reverse mode, it is very distracting.Getting the face back on is a mega challenge, but I don't intend to be removing it anyway.Would recommend to a friend and would buy again for myself.
Review by DLR : A Very Happy Do-It-Your-Selfer
After reviewing several articles, specifications, and prices of all the additional add-ons --Ipod, Blue tooth, and HD receiver which this head unit included; I choose the pioneer DEH-7200HD. I am very pleased with this purchase. Pioneer makes great electronic gear without going to extremes on pricing. I have owned both McIntosh and Crown Stereo separates in the past. Today, I own Pioneer's Elite Home Entertainment units and HD television set and am very happy! (Crown doesn't make home units anymore and McIntosh is very pricy, even for their car audio equipment.) I had no problem installing this head unit in my car, and setup was a snap! My suggestion would be to set down and write out what you want in a head unit and the prices of the EXTRA add-ons if bought separately. Review by T. Mueller : Proud Pioneer Customer
This deck exceeded my expectations. It makes my stock speakers do things I never thought were possible. Well worth it!I was shopping for a new CD deck and knew I wanted a Pioneer since I've had two before this in my previous cars and both decks out-lived my cars. I did a lot of research and settled on this particular model since it allows for more tweaking of settings than the lower-cost ones. Plus, it has auxiliary and USB jacks. I haven't used the auxiliary yet but I have used the USB for my iPhone.I've had the deck for about 2 weeks now and don't have anything to complain about except for one thing, and it's my iPhone's fault, not the deck's. I get a lot of error 16's but it is easily resolved by plugging in the phone BEFORE turning my car on. If that doesn't work, I can reboot my iPhone and then plug it in and then turn on my car and it works fine. I'm using an old iPhone 3G so I'm sure that when I finally upgrade I won't have this problem. From what I've learned, this problem seems to have been resolved with some of the newer models. I've also read some reviews complaining about the front face plate being hard to detach and attach. If you're used to face plates that detach by just pulling outward like I was, you may panic the first time you go to detach this one and think it's broken. But it's not. You have to pull it to the right toward your passenger seat instead of pulling toward you. When you go to put it back on, attach the hinges on the left side of the plate and then finish pushing it in. It's explained in the manual. But once you figure that out you won't have any problems. The HD radio seems to work fine for me. Some people have said that they've had problems with reception but I don't seem to notice any difference. And now I can pick up new channels so that is pretty awesome. Some people have also said that the knob is too touchy. I have no idea what they're talking about. It works fine for me, but maybe I'm just used to Pioneer models. If it's a concern for you, I'd recommend trying to go to a store with CD decks on display and checking this model or similar Pioneer ones out. The area around the knob does get finger-printed very easily so if you're really anal about that it may bother you, but you can only really see it when it's bright outside. All in all, I am once again a happy Pioneer customer. I would strongly recommend this product.***UPDATE*** I just upgraded to the iPhone 4s and it is fully compatible with this deck. Everything works great with it.
Review by S. McDonough "Cheaper is Better" : Best Deck with most options for the price
This is a great deck with a 3 sets of 4 volt pre-outs, a built in hd-radio tuner, and usb and ipod capabilities. Great deck for functionality. The only two things I would have liked to see are a fold down face to cover the cd entry slot and a second usb port in the rear of the unit to allow a hidden usb connection somewhere in your vehicle. Still beggers can't be choosers and I found through extensive comparison that this product had more of the features that I was looking for the best price. Thank amazon for the lowest price and super saver shipping.
